Consciousness expresses itself through creation

Lynn Terry - Professional Profile

I am the principal of a performing arts school. I am also a dance examiner and a freelance choreographer. I teach Ballet, Tap, Modern, Jazz, Contemporary, Drama and Musical Theatre to people of all ages and abilities. I examine Ballet, Tap and Modern.

I love all aspects of my work, but my passion is choreography. I have choreographed in many different styles- everything from one and a half minute solos for my pupils to perform in dance competitions through to thirty minute contemporary works for professional dancers. I have worked both in Europe and America producing choreography.

I have taught dance in International schools in France and Monaco to children whose first language was not English. I have worked with children who are autistic and with some who have ADHD. I have also worked with children and adults who have Down's Syndrome. I enjoy the challenges and rewards that teaching presents.

I enjoy writing, producing, choreographing and directing musicals for my pupils to perform. I don't write the music as, sadly, I have absolutely no talent in that direction, but I have written lyrics to music composed by colleagues.

I also really like writing, directing, filming and editing short films for my drama students. If I hadn't pursued a career in dance I would have loved to go into the film industry.

I regularly attend courses as part of my continual professional development. I am embarking upon the BAPP Arts course as I hope to go on afterwards to gain a PGCE and teach in day schools.
